We’ve all heard of
small man’s disease: “can’t be seen so have to be heard”. (Like me, you
probably know one or two sufferers). But does the opposite ring true?

We’ve all heard of
small man’s disease: “can’t be seen so have to be heard”. (Like me, you
probably know one or two sufferers). But does the opposite ring true?

I was given the chance to find out when recently approached by Julia
Kneady of Tall People United. Julia and her team were organising a
kids’ charity fundraising event aptly named “Love ya Genes” at The
Loft, in Melbourne’s CBD. Minimum entry height was 6’2” for men and
5’10” for the ladies!

Austins ‘sixfootsix’ wines were proud (and fitting) sponsors of the
event. Jacklyn and I soon discovered that tall people definitely don’t
have to be heard to be seen.
I was bailed up by Coxy (of Coxy’s Big Break) who “hates” a wine. Coxy
was musically accompanied by Tracey Bartram, Wilbur Wild, Bobbie
Valentine, a couple of the Cat Empire boys and some other gangly dudes.
Reportedly, they have entered the Guinness book of records as the
world’s tallest band, The Talls. Clearly starved of fluid after playing
a fantastic set on the drums, Coxy soon emptied the complete array of
tasting bottles. Luckily the bar had put aside extras!

As well as donating a dozen bottles to the silent auction, Austins
produced this one-off specially bottled, super-lanky magnum of 2008
sixfootsix Pinot Noir as a prize on the night. Congratulations to the
lucky winner.
